Bournemouth v Bath

West Division 1

February 27th 2016

Final Score Bournemouth 1:7 Bath

The squad

Bath travelled to the South coast with a lot of the regular first team players unavailable, so it was a great opportunity for some of the second team to show Captain Luke Wilmot what they had to offer.

The day also saw the whole Jacques clan on the pitch at the same time as dad Tom and regular younger son Akito were joined by Yugo, home from University in Japan.

Bath started the game brightly, Neil Smith dominating the face and coming up with good possession for the visitors, good finishing by Simon Griffiths with two goals and Nik Roberts (Fed by Griffiths) on the crease put Bath in a comfortable 3 nil lead at the quarter.

The game then became all about the defence, Bath dealt well with whatever Bournemouth threw at them, Luke Wilmot, Owen Edwards and Yugo Jacques snuffing out any attack, Wilmot in particular with some great interceptions and clearances; at the other end Bath rushed it a little and allowed the Bournemouth defence to clear the ball straight back at the Bath defence, that said a good shot by Dale Armstrong, too strong for the keeper, going through his stick and a wonderful fast break ending in a Seb Morgan goal extended the lead to 5 nil at the half.

The third quarter saw stalemate at both ends of the field, missed easy passes by both teams when good chances had been carved out a regular occurrence, neither team bothered the keeper.

At the break Wilmot was not in the mood for allowing Bournemouth back into the game and demanded more work, particularly on the ground ball, Bournemouth however had not read the script and duly scored with a long screened shot. This was the catalyst to re invigorate Bath, movement improved the visitors ended the game with 2 more goals from Griffiths and Roberts, had the good chances been taken it could have been a lot more.

Over all a good performance, for those seconds that got to play, a good warm up for the Plate Final on the 5th
