Another goal fest in Wales

Swansea Hawks v Bath 1sts

Date: 6th November 2010

Location: Swansea

Comp: West Div 1

Final Score Swansea Hawks 3:22 Bath

Bath travelled to Swansea off the back of 3 strong performances in the league, and the first trophy of the season, the West Cup. After a long journey across the bridge the side had little time to warm-up, and no facilities to change in. Bath started at a high tempo taking an early man-up goal through Will Finlayson, before Doug Mackay (2), Rhys Morgan (2), Pete Short (2) and Simon Griffiths (1) got on the score board to give the visitors a comfortable first quarter lead.

Gareth Shellard and Paddy Peacock scored early in the second, so when Troy Whyte struck it ensured all Bath's short sticks had netted. A poor clear by the visitors gave Swansea their first goal of the day; the defence of Sam Scott, Sam White and Edd Perry were clearly unimpressed and raised the level of their game, putting in some big physical hits. Bath led into half-time 14-1.

The second half started well, with a now bloody kneed’ Finlayson continuing to dominate the face, and Alex Aiton making a second impressive performance at LSM clearing up any scraps left behind.

Finlayson and Mackay capitalised on some brilliant offensive movement by Rhys Morgan and Pete short opening gaps at will, before adding to their own tally along with Simon Griffiths. More suspect defending allowed a Swansea pole to rip a screamer from outside the restraining line to make the three quarter score 18-2.

Swansea struck first in the final quarter, but Bath were never going to let the home side off the hook, more midfield goals from Finlayson and Mackay piled on the misery and Rhys Morgan’s 5th goal towards the end of the match rounded off another successful day with the final goal
