Bath University v Bath
Comp: Friendly
Venue: Medical Pitch, Bath Uni
Date 14th September 2024
Cobwebs well and truly blown away
Pre-season friendlies are a barometer for the coming season, and judging from this game, Bath are going to struggle for regular commitment this season
Fielding 11 players, two of which will play for Bristol in SEMLA wasn’t ideal, that said the excuses for absence from half a dozen Bath players was genuine, and the club will be competitive. Also, the link to the University has never been more important. It meant that, on a hot day, game management was key.
Bath Uni are in transition, a lot of new players taking over the first team. They are well organised and quick across the ground; all they lack is a little game “savvy” which will come as the University gets more games under their belt.
The game was very even, both sides having the lead at some stage, University goals tended to be from worked shots from outside the defence, whilst the Bath City goals tended to be results of one-on-one drives. However the 16 man University squad had the advantage in terms of freshness towards the end of the game.
Both keepers made some good saves, and City had a goal disallowed, the final score of 8:6 to the university being a fair reflection of the game.
