Short manned Bath run out of steam
Bath v Cheltenham Cougars
Cotswolds Division 1
25th January 2025
Final Score Bath 3:12 Cheltenham
Cheltenham Cougars are the top club in the West Currently, the Cotswolds League is a great opportunity for the middle range squad player to get some quality field time, this was probably for the best as Bath, suffering from a raft of injuries, cold only get 10 players out for this home game.
Cheltenham set out their stall early on in this game, looking to control the ball in attack, moving the ball around the defence quickly and patiently though David Lennox, waiting for the opportunity to capitalise on any defensive errors. Bath, to give credit to the defence, communicated well and dealt with the Cheltenham reverse rotation, particularly while legs were relatively fresh.
At face Sam Kettle, although winning only a few cleanly, made sure the fast break wasn’t available from the restarts, and given the amount possession Bath gained from the following ground ball and turnovers in the first half, should have been closer than 3:1 down. Only a solo effort from Tom Dexter registering on the score sheet.
In Attack, Mike Carey, led from the front, working tirelessly, and managed to create space for the other attackers, Simon Griffiths finishing well for a brace in the third quarter. Others could have scored, but lacked the clinical finishing needed.
As legs began to tire, and Cheltenham moved to a more direct offence, using transition well to capitalise, the score difference widened.
A comfortable win for the visitors in a clean competitive game of lacrosse.
Bath need players, and need to look at the local community for sport converts to make into lacrosse players.
