West Womens T3

West Womens League – Tournament 3

26 November 2017

Location: Westonbirt

Bath play some of their best lacrosse but come out with only one win.

The Women’s squad is looking pretty capable, and on its’ day could upset some of the bigger clubs in the league.

As usual the tournament is split into pools in the morning and then seeded to put similar standard teams against each other in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, due to a couple of last minute withdrawals, but there were still 10 teams on show, with Reading making their first appearance.

On the circle

Bath took the game to all the opposition, scoring regularly, but unable to capitalise on possession gained at the draw or by saves by Captain Irene Moynihan. Too often the girls left the field wondering how they managed to lose.

If there was a general fault on the day, Bath just couldn’t consistently come up with the ground ball, one theory is that both the club and the university practice on artificial pitches, and the grass, uneven surface is unforgiving of sloppy technique. But the possession lost in this vital area of play certainly influenced results.

The day looked gloomy as a win seemed to be beyond the team, despite the hard work on the field, but in the last game, against Falmouth the ladies in red came good and finished with a nice win.

Being silly

Bath are lying 5th in the league, and looking to finish in their highest place ever, after Christmas sees the January indoor, 5 a-side tournament followed by T4 on artificial surfaces – maybe the ground ball won’t be an issue.
