Bath Women v Oxford City
SW League
Sunday 6th December 2020
Final Score Bath 13:15 Oxford
A small Bath squad took on Oxford City in a hard fought lacrosse match. Coming straight out of lockdown, both teams were extremely keen to get back onto the pitch and stuck into the game.
Bath started the game positively, with some excellent starts from Jocelyn Cotterill. Some great teamwork in midfield resulted in smooth transitions up the pitch and Bath getting on the score board. Both teams enjoyed plenty of ball, but Bath managed to get in an extra goal to finish the first quarter ahead 4 goals to 3.
Bath came under more pressure in the second quarter, with defenders Carmen Larrea, Jen Jeffcoat-Marsh and Beth Storey holding Oxford’s attackers back. Two goals to each team meant that going into half time Bath were still ahead by one goal 6:5.
In the third quarter Bath continued to play well with excellent mid-field work from Jess Westwood, Ellie O’Connor and Steph Macpherson. But as Oxford began to make use of their subs, the home team began to tire and Oxford pulled ahead to take the lead and finish the quarter ahead by one goal. Bath 8:9 Oxford.
In the final quarter, the ball was going end to end, with each team fighting for possession. Goal-keeper Katie Little making some excellent saves, helping to keep the score-line close. At the other end of the pitch Iona and Victoria Westwood were working hard in attack to convert possession into goals. Unfortunately when the whistle blew, the score was Bath 13:15 Oxford, an impressive result for ten hard working lacrosse players.
