The ladies section is growing from strength to strength, looking more competitive as the new students gain more skills and awareness on the pitch.

For T2 there were a lot of changes to personnel and Captain Fenella Pinney had her work cut out to get the team balanced, competitive but open to new players. Although a lot of the squad were unavailable due to half term, which made the job was a little easier than normal.

The day didn’t get off to the best of starts, the hooter went and Bath weren’t on the field, Cardiff Took the draw and barrelled down on an empty goal, Bath charging onto the pitch to try and stop the goal, confusion reigned for a couple of minutes as the new players were not only trying to figure out who was on or off, but trying to figure out what positions to play, and where they should be on the pitch. Panic over Bath started to play well, losing but not without a fight.

And so the day went to form, the morning of the tournament is seeded on the last tournaments placing; Bath lost to Both Cardiff’s and Exeter University but managed a good win over FXU (Falmouth University). Apart from Exeter (and Bath scored the opening goal) all the games were close, showing the improvement and the importance of having a core of more experienced players in the team.

The afternoon put the girls in the same group as Cardiff Harlequins, FXU, Aberystwyth and South Coast Seagulls, the winners of T1.

Having already beaten FXU the girls went into the first game with some confidence, unfortunately some decisions went against them at crucial times, giving the win 2:1 to FXU in a tight competitive game. This seemed to fire up the team and there followed some impressive displays, giving wins against Cardiff and Aberystwyth, and in the last game Bath had the lead against the Seagulls only to tie 2:2 at the close.

Huge improvement, the clear was a lot more controlled and some of the attack purposeful and settled, great performances all round, particularly from Eve Pearman, who ran and ran, scoring several goals and Fenella Pinney, didn’t lose many draws and played on with a damaged knee.

Goal celebration of the day however goes to Nat Renwick, scoring from a free shot, not sure if it was tears of joy or relief.

Next tournament is on the 30th November, if Bath put out enough players, there might be two teams entered.
