Bath cruise past Birmingham

Bath v Birmingham Bulls

West Division 1

8 November 2014

Final Score Bath 16:4 Birmingham

Bath cruise past a competent Birmingham side

Birmingham travelled with just the 10 men, and with Bath’s seconds game being cancelled due to a waterlogged all weather pitch in Bristol (go figure) the numbers nm the side line were always going to be significant.

Birmingham started well, moving the ball with purpose and turning the Bath defence, within 7seven minutes the visitors were two nil up and in control. Bath however are no pushover and slowly the home side midfield began to assert itself. Goals from Doug Mackay, Adam Wilkinson (the first of many) and Tim Lyne ensured that the deficit was cancelled out and a 1 goal lead established by the end of the quarter.

After the visitors initial flourish it was only a matter of time, Ken Murray and Jason He began to dominate at face, the resulting possession and extra legs on the bench meant the home team could start to turn the screw, scoring regularly from then on.

Wilkinson particularly in the third quarter looked unstoppable, scoring three of his eight goals in the period.  In fact the Bath attack looks particularly mobile, with Tim Lyne and Adam Wilkinson a constant threat from the flanks and Simon Griffiths driving from behind goal.

The game also showed that some of the second team players are knocking on the first team door, Jonty Terrington, Seb Morgan and Rich Bowan-Ashwin did not look out of place, plus Jack Coward at LSM came up with some important ground ball at the face.

On this form Bath are showing all the credentials of a promotion winning side, only Cardiff and Southampton, both victors over Bath last season stand in the way.
