Lacklustre Bath miss chance of home advantage

Mark Lane fakes

Bath put out a strong and large squad for this Semi-Final plat game and should have, on paper able to compete better with a reasonably good Warwick team.

For the first half there wasn’t much between the sides on paper, although Mark Lane in goal was definitely the busier goal keeper, Warwick were unlucky not to have had more goals, failing to capitalise when Lane got caught up field on a running clear leaving an empty goal.

Ground ball fightLloyd Butler drives

Bath just didn’t get into the game with any passion, competition got the ground ball was below par and the confidence in their own ability down, this caused slower ball movement, looped passes and more dropped ball than the home side has been accustomed to of late. God field position was simply given away through unforced errors.

The third quarter was the real undoing of Bath, up till then the team had, despite not playing particularly well, held on to Warwick, denying the boys in Blue goals rather than causing problems at the other end of the pitch, but 3 unanswered goals put enough daylight between the teams to enable Warwick to settle even more and control the game.

This is the first leg of a two leg semi-final, although Bath have to travel to Warwick in two weeks’ time, there is no reason, if Bath set about the game in the right way, that they can’t go through.
