Hillcroft B v Bath – SEMLA Div2 – 3rd November 2018

SEMLA Divison 2

Hillcroft B v Bath

Final Score Hillcroft 3:13 Bath

Bath win comfortably on the road

Bath made a good start to the match with good attacks but couldn’t put the ball in the goal. Frustration set in early with Bath taking silly shots and wasting good opportunities and loosing possession. Hillcroft B capitalised and took advantage for a fast break scoring back to back goals both one on one with Bath keeper Mark Lane. Hillcroft continued in this way and were very unlucky not to push the lead further if it wasn’t from great saves from Lane and defending from Bath’s starting defence, Luke Wilmot, Paul Bown and birthday boy Richard Bowen-Ashwin.

The second quarter started off in the same manor. Baths face off men Alex Foster-Powell and Chris Mills were dominant on face off and created chances but to no avail and Hillcroft again countered and scored. Bath scrambled a goal back via Alex Foster-Powell and Baths captain Luke Wilmot called a time out to try and sort the Bath attack out. Bath were dodging the first slide and then attempting to dodge the next slide and were getting themselves into trouble so were now instructed to draw the slide and look for the dump and to start working together and not as individuals. This rallied the Bath comeback as dodges from Chris Mills, Alex Foster-Powell and James Smith drew the slide from crease leaving Lloyd Butler open as he scored three almost identical goals putting Bath in the lead at half time.

Bath never looked back, Lloyd scoring again and James Smith finishing twice from two well worked moves. Baths midfield of Alex Foster-Powell, Alex George, James Smith and Josh Yeoman worked tirelessly in attack and defence, communicating well and clearing the ball from goal excellently.

Bath had worked hard to tire out Hillcroft by keeping possession, cutting and moving. Hillcroft’s frustration set in conceding penalties allowing Bath to take advantage of the man up plays. Lloyd Butler and James Smith scoring from these. Bath rode the opponents clears very well, intercepting from the goalkeeper with Josh Yeoman missing an open net. This happened again with Lloyd scoring his eighth of the game with an open net despite the plea from Jason He for the ball.

This has been the second week Bath travelled to London with a small squad and everyone worked hard again but this can’t continue for Bath who have ambitions of the higher leagues.
